My PC seems to be crashing a lot recently. I have deleted the programs that I installed in the last couple of weeks since the problem began, but it still crashes after about 20 minutes - even when using programs such as Microsoft Word. Could it be a virus, or could the deleted programs still be causing problems?

It's hard to give an accurate diagnosis when confronted with problems such as this. If the trouble has been caused by the software you introduced recently, the simple act of uninstalling it won't always undo the damage. However, it's practically impossible to track down the culprit. The only remedy is to reformat the hard disk and reinstall both Windows and your applications.
The other common cause of crashes is overheating. The small fans that cool many processors don't run forever. Neither is it unknown for the inside of a PC to fill up with dust. So, before you do anything more drastic, check inside the machine to ensure its components are being cooled as efficiently as they were when the computer was new.
